According to Paizo they are working to improve ship combat and will be releasing it when it’s “ready”. You play PF2e without ship combat so you could play test SF2e I guess

PF2E Playtest Brag: It was released after the playtest that 2% of groups survived the Worldwound stress-test, and I was in one of those groups ;) We got *really* lucky with two Banishment spells and the Druid took advantage of an error in the writeup up for Dinosaur Form where the Pterodactyl's attack was listed as "unarmed", meaning that Handwraps could be applied to them. And this was when Striking *multiplied* weapon damage rather than just adding one die per rank, so they were chucking like 12 dice on a regular hit xP

Some of these designs are very alien, gotta wonder about how they interact with other species

My big issue with the playtest is that there's currently no "tech guy" class; I'm actually really shocked there's no engineer-type role to play off the bat. The science fiction engineer "I can fix anything with paperclips and hammers" Miles O'Brien type is such a fundamental core fantasy for science fiction. You can scratch that itch a little bit with some of the other classes (operative and envoy particularly), but nothing that really capitalizes on that core fantasy of "I'm the tech guy" and that strikes me as a big miss. I hope that gets corrected before the 2nd Ed. gets launched. I think it would be a tremendous shame for Starfinder to launch without one.

It's for me. I've been a PF2e GM for a while now, but I may well switch mainly over to SF2e once it comes out. I love it.

At about 1:00:00, My understanding of this is inside to outside is the 1. Gas Giant, 2. Tiando 3. Non operating vessel, 4. Sam's Ship, 5. Asteroid Belt, 6. Pride. So the adtriod the broke off is heading toward the Gas Giant.

They have said starship combat is coming in the next playtest before the book is finalized. It's not being stripped from the core rules, just not in the initial playtest. They're probably going to release it in the second playtest with the Mechanic and Technomancer classes which will be early next year I believe.

The starfinder playtest is for me. That's it. Video over (Edit: I'm really hyped for how starfinder plays out because I'm a big fan of spelljammer and the idea of scifi ttrpgs)

Starship combat will be a separate playtest

Space combat has been a tough thing to nail down since the inception of TTRPGS being set in space. From Traveller to Space Opera no one system has gotten it right without breaking into Starfleet Battles and other tactical table simulators.

In one of the live streams about the playtest, they said that they knew that spaceship combat was the most contentious part of Starfinder. So they are planning on not having just one system for it, but three that you can choose from with varying levels of crunch. Including one that they called "naritive style." They also said that these are the only classes in the core rulebook. However, they are going to be starting a regular playtest for new classes like they do with Pathfinder. And that the two classes being playtested next year for the next book will be the Techomancer and the Mechanic. They didn't say what the theme of that book will be. But I think we can figure it out

My wife and I played Eat the Reich at Genghis Con in Denver. We had a blast, even if our GM said two or three times "I don't know what that means" in reference to parts of the rules. Didn't matter, as we agreed at the start that we'd roll with it. What a fun time, and we immediately bought the game online.

I don't think they'll completely strip Ship combat out of the game. I will say they will probably strip it out of the base rules. Looking at the game manual in your hands, you have to add base Pathfinder rules into that mass as well. It'll be a baseline for what you need to run adventures into either Pathfinder or Starfinder. I can see the next book in the Starfinder 2e series being about ship combat as well as a host of ships to purchase/build as well as rules to build your own.

(Oh, and three-action system FTW baby! Both a great innovation in the space AND an excellent action system. Makes life so much easier.)

Starship and vehicle combat and chase rules were a major part of the original Starfinder's appeal. Stripping them out of 2E would be a mistake. However, the actual "starship combat" rules drew mixed reactions. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut that out and just kept vehicle and starship chase rules, something a bit more stripped down.

so sad i got to this three years late! i was really excited to see b dave walters helming a wraith AP--i've really wanted to see one in action for awhile now and this scratched that itch and then some. i sincerely hope they choose to do another wraith chronicle someday because this was phenomenal! the WoD is hands down my preferred world to play in because you get stories like this, stories that lean into corruption and darkness and Bad Ends. it's something i've missed a lot when playing dnd. 10/10 on this! if they do another wraith game, i will be in the front row with popcorn in hand, eager to see more in this direction!!
